Congratulations to Wes and Vanessa Rakis-Garabedian for igniting the true spirit of Auberry through collaborative partnerships and local participation at last Saturday's public gathering!
The live music event and pop-up farmer's market was a true testament to the creative ingenuity of our local residents. Through hard work, design-thinking, and determination, the Garabedian family embodied the spirit of the foothills and inspired future generations to pursue their dreams.
Vendors from North Fork, Tollhouse, Auberry, Sanger, and Prather collectively added to the ideals of revitalization through fresh local products and services. Talented band 'Autumn Leaves' added to the ambiance through their Americana, folk and classic rock tunes of the 60's and 70's.
Farmers markets are important for many reasons. They remain a critical component in rebuilding local economies, but more importantly bring the community together to experience fresh products and ideas. They also make farming profitable and encourage new generations of farmers and event organizers.
By having a social purpose with a ‘pop-up’ concept, Munahoo Market created an important social event for the life of customer-centric community.
Popup businesses can provide opportunities for citizen involvement, promote volunteerism, and serve as a public forum regarding matters of importance to the community, e.g. community planning issues, revitalization efforts, and local politics. In addition, farmers markets can help bridge cultural differences in the community.
Ultimately, events like these encourage more farm start-ups and more entrepreneurial investment in the local community. Vendors and popups add jobs to the economy and inspire others to start their own businesses.
For the past few years, there has been an increasing demand for organic foods and local business participation, which returns money to the local economy. As demand increases, engagement and sustainability become a mainstay.
We can expect Munahoo Market to bring organic foods closer to our homes and to give us more opportunities to support local business.
Thank you to all involved for a successful venture and to continued support in making our towns a wonderful place to live!
